DIY Garage Floor Epoxy: How We Transformed Our Dingy Garage for Under $600
When we moved into this house, every single inch needed attention—including the smelly, moldy, oil-stained garage floor. While our renovation list was long and daunting, I hit my limit after too many mornings walking through this dingy, unhappy space. The garage floor needed a glow-up.

Enter: Operation Garage Floor Epoxy.
We bought this house sight unseen, knowing there’d be quirks we didn’t love, but nothing that felt like a dealbreaker. One thing I really wished for? A mudroom. Since this house didn’t have one, I decided the garage had to step up. With a little creativity (and elbow grease), it became both a mudroom alternative and a fresh, functional space.
Why We Chose to DIY Our Garage Floor Epoxy
I looked into professional garage epoxy services—my sister had hers done for a cool $5,000 (ouch). With an entire house to remodel and a DIY spirit to match, we decided to take on the project ourselves.
- ✔️ Best case: It looked fabulous.
- ✔️ Worst case: It had to be better than what we started with.
Spoiler alert: it turned out way better than we imagined. Two years later, it’s still holding up beautifully.

Two years later, this garage floor still looks amazing. Between Ohio winters, road salt, and the occasional hammer drop (oops), it’s held up beautifully.
